Winters in Kansas are unpredictable. Some years are cold and pretty dry without much moisture. Other years, snow is much more frequent. Although the cold isn’t fun, I do enjoy the beautiful snow. There’s nothing prettier than the sight of soft snowflakes quietly falling into little drifts on the ground and dusting the trees and plants like vanilla icing on a cake. The snow rests so gently and makes such lovely patterns of frost and ice.

This photo was taken near a lake close to my home. If you haven’t noticed already, I love closeup shots that capture the details of nature and objects while at home and abroad. To me, the brown prairie grass and white snow provide the perfect contrast for each other…the grasses are in dormancy, waiting for winter to end, while the snow provides life-giving moisture and the promise of growth once spring finally arrives. Snow also reminds me of God and how He is the only one that can cover my sin.
